The Treasures

The array of items sold is extensive and ever changing. They range from comic books to furniture to Betty Boop handbags, movie studio paraphernalia, jewelry, remote controlled cars, tools, video games, figurines, lunch boxes, VHS and DVD movies, clothes, and everything in between.

Although some are new items, the flea market has gained a regional reputation for being uniquely focused on rare-find used collectibles. Many customers and vendors remark that it's this niche that makes the Quaker City Flea Market truly unique in the region. People will travel great distances to find that rare hidden treasure.

Hundreds of thousands of items abound and while people peruse the wares, the smells of delicious foods permeate through the air. Food vendors offer such tasty treats as pizza, soft pretzels, hot dogs, breakfast sandwiches, hot coffee, and Spanish and Colombian specialties.

The History

Located just minutes away from Center City and Bucks County at the intersection of Tacony and Comly Streets, off of I-95's Bridge Street exit in Northeast Philadelphia, the Quaker City Flea Market is a landmark institution, having operated continuously at the same location since early 1974.

In years prior, Quaker City Flea Market's indoor complex was home to the national offices of the Quaker City Rubber Company [1] [2] [3], a once prominent manufacturer of rubber goods ranging from conveyor belts and hoses to automobile tires. The Quaker City Rubber Company's main rubber manufacturing facility was located behind our building. Prior to 1951, these properties consisted mostly of the Delaware River boat houses [1] [2], which were demolished to make way for the the rubber company's plant and offices.

The site and the area is steeped in history and the Quaker City Flea Market is considered to be the city's oldest continuously running same-site flea market.
